el mapa
This is Guatemala City, via googlemaps:
Seems pretty complex, right?
This is the map Ivan gave us, along with the keys to his car:
The disparity in detail on the maps is worth noting. We were given a couple main roads, our address, and his mom's number- that's all we need to navigate the city, evidently. The truth is that we had a blast, and we did just fine. When we got lost on our way home, we showed our map to the guy at the gas station, who raised his eyebrows and shook his head. He asked if we knew basically where we were, and the extent of our knowledge was that as far as we knew, we were still in Guatemala City. I don't think that's what he meant, but, we made it and loved it, and would probably accept a similar map again, as I really can't imagine Ivan getting any more detail oriented. I would sign up for another drive through the city, asking Lizzie if she sees a street on the map, only to have her remind me that there are exactly three roads listed, and please stop asking, because no it is not. And, I think I also got used to saying, "Hmmm...okay. I think I'm just going to try something."
Sounds exciting, no? Maybe you'll be lucky enough to sign up for round two.
